The 2014 Raleigh Militis Comp = Carbon Race Proven Geometry Executed in Aluminum

Whether lining up for a 100-mile road race or a local crit, at just over 18lbs the Militis Comp is the perfect match of no-compromise components and race engineering. Outfitted with a SRAM Rival and FSA Energy drive train, the Militis Comp is ready to hit the pavement at high speed with no empathy for the competition.

"The Militis Comp is the aluminum brother of the full carbon race bike, benefiting from the same race-proven geometry. Raleigh's reasoning behind using aluminum over carbon at this price is that it's not only able to create a frame that's competitive on weight, but also to spec higher grade components.

Given where the bike's geometry has come from, it's no surprise to find a bike that performs well at speed, with a short head tube that allows you to get a low, aggressive stance over the bike. The head-tube is also tapered and with the deep-bladed Raleigh C6 carbon fork – the same as found on the race spec Militis Elite — results in a stiff front end.

While the contact points are aluminum rather than carbon, Raleigh has specced some decent components. SRAM Rival shifters and derailleurs provide accurate shifting, and though the S300 chainset is non-series it offers ample stiffness for transferring your efforts." - Cycling Plus magazine 4/5 Stars

"We've commented on the oversized downtube, but the remaining sides of the front triangle are far from slender. Only in the rear triangle do the tube diameters decrease, most notably in the seat stays. Engineers deploy pencil thin stays when working with carbon to induce compliance and with it comfort. Previous generations of aluminum frames earned no great reputation for either, so we'll be keen to see what the Militis offers as far as comfort.

All things taken together, the Militis Comp combines a classic geometry with contemporary features, and a striking paint scheme whose visual effect — that of a machine that looks fast standing still — we hope will be replicated in the performance."
