Garmin Releases New Garmin Edge 510 and 810 GPS Cyclocomputers

Bluetooth enabled, Free Smartphone App, Quick Select Profiles, and More

Both of these powerful and feature rich models can mount to the existing Garmin bracket, and there is a new out-front mounting option available for only $40.

Garmin Connect

Wireless connection to a smartphone is simple Bluetooth technology - and the free app (iOS or Android) allows you to invite friends to follow your ride in real time using the LiveTrack feature.

The smartphone link also connects directly with the GarminConnect site (also free), allowing you to search for and load established routes into your cycloclcomputer. At the end of a ride, you can upload your data directly to the site. The app can also push weather data from your phone to the display — you'll get a warning before a sudden thunderstorm.

The 510 sees upgrades in the way of increased display size, and longer battery life. Garmin also says that the 510 has better satellite acquisition

The 810 features improvements and revisions, rather than a ground up design - hence its similar look. The battery life has been boosted by two hours, and the biggest feature by far is the connectivity to your mobile device.

Both of the Edge computers have barometric altimeters, which provided more accurate elevation information than gleaned from GPS signals or elevation databases. The Edges are also waterproof from the start, so there's no need to add a case to your phone, and are more likely than a smartphone to survive a crash.
