When it comes to an all mountain bike, you want something that climbs easy and rolls over anything. The Santa Cruz Tallboy LT 29" carbon frame combines the rolling efficiency of 29 inch wheels with 135mm of VPP travel, all in a feather light frame, weighing in at 5.35 lbs with the shock.
The combination of full suspension and 29" wheels are making the biggest waves in the MTB world.
The Tallboy uses VPP suspension and carbon technology. How does the second generation VPP suspension work? It features upper and lower links which flatten out the shock rate. This provides a more active feel to the early axle path, allowing the rear wheel to move up and back as you ride over a bump. It also balances the downward force of your pedaling with the pulling force of the chain, neutralizing them to prevent pedal-bob or unwanted squatting during acceleration. The VPP design also prevents brake induced lockout, allowing you to descend confidently on rough technical trails.
The one piece lay up and curing of the front triangle eliminates the need for welds or bonds, ridding the frame of excess material and weight. The resulting structure distributes loads and absorbs impact energy better as a result of the continuous fibers that wrap between tubes.
The complex process used to make this bike places material where it's needed most, and reduces the chance for stress risers, resulting in a
strong and light chassis for the VPP suspension to work its magic.
For the front shock, Santa Cruz used a light, trustworthy Fox Float RP23 shock that's easy to adjust. Three position propedal gives you two platforms to choose from to maximize your efficiency during long standing climbs.Check out our recent post about getting the most out of your pedaling
The Fox features rebound, preload, and compression adjustments for fine-tuning. It also has lockout for those long climbs to the top.
On this bike you've got the natural advantages of the bigger wheels of a 29er and the active, responsive VPP suspension to make rock gardens, water bars, or lumpy fire roads feel like butter.
Easton EA70XC wheels wrapped in GEAX Saguro 2.2in tires provide excellent traction on any type of terrain.
The handlebar, stem and seatpost are also made by Easton, offering the comfort you need for those all day rides.
The SRAM XX calipers and levers are powerful and lightweight, and the 160mm rotors provide consistent, confidence-boosting stopping power as well.
It comes in a matte carbon/red and in four sizes: Medium, Large, X-Large and XX-Large
